We spent a day in New Zealand paradise...Bland Bay. Don't be fooled by the name. There is nothing plain about this place. Just to get to Bland Bay is a feat. This is evidence enough that the place is isolated, special, and uniquely Kiwi.
Roughly thirty minutes past Whangarei, we turned onto a smaller road with one lane bridges and hairpin turns. These hairpin turns lasted for over an hour up and down New Zealand's many many hills. It was a bit intense. Once we got to Hikurangi and Oakura I started to realize what we were in for. The ocean glimpses were beyond stunning. I love love the open sea in the far northland. It never disappoints.
Jason's papa has lived on a beach side piece of land on Bland Bay for many years. Jason remembers the property being nothing more than a small shack...this time we came to visit a big ranch style home that overlooked a stunning bay.
The beach was pebbly with a view of other islands within the Bay of Islands. We had the whole family up there. It was a very cloudy and overcast day.
By far, the most rewarding part of the visit was seeing Callum play in the water. He was a natural!
